AJW Group Expands Use of Solar Energy in Aircraft Battery MRO Services

23 Oct 2024

AJW Group is proud to announce that its aircraft battery Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility, AJW Technique Europe, now integrates solar energy into its operations.

The AJW Technique Europe facility, strategically located near London Gatwick Airport, offers comprehensive battery repair and overhaul services, including deep cycle, top charge, cleaning, and re-blocking for all commercial aircraft main, auxiliary, and emergency power supplies. Meeting the needs of the company’s European customers, the facility delivers the same outstanding service and quality that AJW’s Canada-based, AJW Technique, facility has provided since 2012.

With the installation of over 2,500 solar panels, which are expected to generate nearly 800,000 kWh of clean energy annually, the 175,000 sq. ft. AJW headquarters has the potential to power up to 55% of its UK-based operations with solar energy. The AJW Technique battery MRO facility is set to benefit from this renewable energy source, providing customers with a service that aligns with their sustainability objectives.

This important milestone marks a shift towards more sustainable energy usage, as aircraft batteries entering the facility are predominantly recharged using clean, renewable solar energy. This development reinforces AJW Group’s commitment to sustainability and its ongoing efforts under the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), which the company proudly signed in 2023.

AJW Group Expands Use of Solar Energy in Aircraft Battery MRO Services

Clyde Buntrock FCILT, CEO of AJW Aviation and AJW Technique, stated, "Expanding our solar capacity and integrating solar energy into our battery MRO facility reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainability, customer success, and the principles of the UNGC. We are proud to offer reliable, environmentally responsible aircraft battery services that help our customers achieve their environmental goals."

By leveraging solar energy in its operations, AJW Group continues to lead in green aviation practices, delivering both environmental and operational value to customers. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to reduce the company’s carbon footprint and promote green energy solutions across all business areas
