The Inspection department is one of the most dynamic departments at AJW.
Our primary function is to inspect all incoming and outgoing serviceable rotable and consumable aircraft parts to AS9120 REV C standards. This ranges from nuts, bolts and washers right through to large bulk items such as auxiliary power units (APU). The Inspection department sits within the Operations group and is by far the biggest department, working in harmony with almost every other department at AJW, including all the offices worldwide.
The department is made up of several key areas: a repair order bench deals with all incoming repairs; a purchase order bench which deals with all purchase orders; and a stock bench that pulls units from our inventory for shipment.
It takes an Inspector six months to gain his personal authorisation quality stamp which signifies proficiency and competency in all our processes and procedures. The basic attributes we look for in an Inspector are a keen eye for detail, plus an enjoyment for being part of a team. It is a fast-paced environment so keen concentration is also a key quality we look for.
Another specialised function of the Inspection department is to manage unserviceable parts that are returned from our aircraft and engine teardowns. This is situated in another building as there are strict rules in place with regards to the segregation of serviceable and unserviceable parts. With over 1,000 customers, the sheer volume of parts we deal with is one of the most challenging factors. This is however made easier by strength in numbers and the enthusiasm and experience that keeps the department running smoothly.
